This ice cream dessert is one of my all time favorites. Creamy, smooth, vanilla ice cream, paired perfectly with a crunchy and sweet, Oreo, Butterfinger, and chocolate crust. It’s the closest thing to heaven on earth!

I use to ask my mom to make a version of this dessert for my birthday when I was little, because I didn’t like cake. Honestly though, even if I did like cake, I would still choose this dessert because of how delicious and easy it is.

It is important to note, that the original version of this dessert didn’t actually include chocolate, buuut me being the chocolate lover that I am, decided I would add my own twist to it. And I have to say, adding the chocolate to it, was genius! It adds a finishing touch of texture and flavor that binds the whole dessert together into one glorious bite. Yep, okay, I’m ready for more of the goodness!

Let’s get to the good part, how to make the Oreo, Butterfinger, ice cream dessert!

Pro Tip: The most important thing when making this dessert is to make sure that the dessert is placed in the freezer AFTER the ice cream is laid onto the bottom crust and BEFORE the top crust goes on. There’s two reasons for this: first, the ice cream needs to be completely frozen when the top crust goes on, so the top crust doesn’t sink. The second is because the melted chocolate will spread better onto the top crust if the ice cream is firm.

  1. Put your Oreos and Butterfingers into a gallon ziplock bag and zip it shut.

2. Then using a rolling pin (I used one like this) crush up your Oreos and Butterfingers until they are in small pieces.

3. In a mixing bowl, combine your Oreos, Butterfingers, and half a cup of melted butter.

4. Press half of the Oreo-Butterfinger crust into the bottom of a 7×11 glass dish. (I used one like this.) Then put it in the freezer, while you prep the chocolate.

5. For the chocolate, combine a 3/4 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips and one tsp. of butter. Microwave on high for a minute and a half, or until chocolate is melted. Stir until chocolate is smooth.

6. Remove crust from the freezer and thinly spread chocolate on the crust. Put the crust back in the freezer, while you prepare your ice cream. (This cools the chocolate and helps prevent the ice cream from melting, when you add it.)

8. Take your crust back out of the freezer, and lay your ice cream bricks on top of your crust. (Cut them into smaller sections as needed to fit them into the dish.) Then use a knife to smooth your ice cream together, as if you were icing a cake. Removing any cracks in the ice cream. Freeze for 30 minutes.

9. Take the dessert back out of the freezer and press the remaining Oreo and Butterfinger crust on top of your ice cream. Then put it back in the freezer.

10. Melt the remaining chocolate and butter. Stir to combine.

11. Once again, take the dessert out of the freezer and spread your melted chocolate on top. Put the dessert back into the freezer to harden for at least 30 minutes.

12. To serve, cut into squares and enjoy!
